Initial User Research
Initial User Research
Project Specification – A fitness app which tracks nutrition
and exercise and makes personalised workout plans for you based around your
current level of fitness and your university (or other) schedule. We essentially want this app to be all-in-one so it's more convenient for the user.
Participants – Students and other young people, people who
go to the gym, these will be the best targets as they are the people who would
use the app as people who don’t regularly exercise won’t have need for a
fitness tracker and students are ideal as they have busy schedules that they need
to work around. We do also want to target people who have a busy schedule so that our feature of an automated timetable system could come into play.
Recruitment Strategy – Randomly chosen around sports central
mostly, with some spoken to on the street to provide different views on the
app. Fitness societies within the university, and other fitness groups. We do also have another strategy which is favoured because it puts less people on the spot, this is an online survey which people are able to fill out anonymously so people may feel more inclined to do.
Methods to be used – Questionnaires, handed to groups to work
out what people want from a personal health tracker, observational research of
other apps in use, to see what is good about other apps and what can be
improved upon and Interviews to get in depth information of what a few selected
candidates would like from a personal health tracker.
What data is being collected? – Sports Central – On average
how long people spend at the gym or exercising a week, how many times people
exercise on average a week, what types of exercise people do, eating habits, do
people use fitness apps, if so what do they like about them, if not why do they
not use them. What features people want from a health tracker.
From this research we are hoping to find out whether people would have a need or want to use a personal health tracker which organises their timetable for them, as well as tracking their health and nutrition. We are aiming for people around the age of 17 - 22 as they are the main target market for the app. We are mainly going to be focusing on questionnaires for the user research, as they are the easiest for people to complete and therefore we can have more people involved in our user research as they will be more willing to take part.
